PVD COATING ON MOLDS

Metistec PVD Coating on Molds

As Metistec Metal, we offer PVD coating services in many different compositions by using the advantages of our large-scale furnaces with cathodic arc technology according to mold applications.
Our PVD coating processes, which we have developed on a sectoral basis and specific to application conditions; We maximize your working performance thanks to our continuous process steps that are repeatable before and after coating.
In order to increase mold life with PVD coating, we also aim to provide further development by making process analysis specifically for our customers.

Advantages of PVD Coating

  • It is a thin film (2-8 micron thickness) layer
  • Provides high hardness (2500- 4500 HV)
  • It has very good adhesion to the surface throughout the surface form.
  • Protects the surface very well
  • Reduces the coefficient of friction compared to a precision machined steel surface
  • Increases corrosion resistance
  • Degradation resistance temperatures / oxidation temperatures are high

Advantages of PVD Coating on Molds

The coating process temperature is below 500°C, so there is no dimensional change in mold steels that have been tempered at high temperatures.

With the coating, a thin film layer of high hardness and thickness between 2 – 8 µm is formed along the surface form, hardness up to 4500 HV. Thus, we greatly increase the abrasion, wrapping and adhesion resistance of the mold.

When PVD coating is combined with special diffusion processes, which we call duplex process, we not only increase the wrapping-adhesion resistance in the molds, but also increase the resistance to pitted wear (abrasive wear, cavitation) on the mold surface to much better levels.

The coating provides a low coefficient of friction on the mold surface (compared to the steel surface), thus providing an advantage and speed in removing the workpiece from the mold. It contributes to reducing mold cycle times.

When multilayer is applied, each layer can be in different combinations (such as Nitride and Carbon based), as a result, the visible (deepening) cracks that may occur on the mold surface can be postponed.

Coating is a highly repeatable process and the same process performance can be achieved each time, specific to the molds.
